closer to beta





I've been at it for about a month and a half and feel pretty good about the current game state. things are chugging along. Since starting the project I have moved from the south up to new England which is part of what inspired my work on this game. I hope by the launch of a simple beta I will have all the initial zoning code finished for storing and building, farming and workshops. right now I have storage done in a bare bones way you can't yet customize the zones to store whatever you would like. Farming is semi done the pilgrims can create farm plots and plant seeds but the growing of the seeds is not finished.
Pilgrims base survival needs is done and working fine. Pilgrims work on a needs vs wants system i created. I pilgrim for instance wants to sleep in a bed and so if a bed is present they will use it for sleeping but they dont NEED a bed if there is no bed they will sleep near a fire and if there is no fire they will sleep on the ground but they will not like it. this is how most of the pilgrims needs works. it ranks what they want vs what they need and if wants line up with reality they are happy as can be. with food they would rather have cooked meals but well settle for foraged mushrooms if nothing else. that way you aren't stuck micro managing every pilgrim because they refuse to work if they dont have a cooked meal or something. it makes them more versatile as well.
there is still so much to do. you can build houses and paths and furniture to your hearts content which in itself is fun. I enjoy making a town layout and feel accomplished crafting it all.
there are plenty of bugs or just unpolished things. today i am fixing cursor mode so that you dont have to constantly click every time you want to move. mouse controls have been briefly added as well. you can move around with the mouse and chop and pickup items with the mouse. but beyond that would require more ui button elements and im not sure how far i want to go with that. the original scope was to keep this game similar to dwarf fortress version 47 so keyboard controls will be the main way to play. It worked for dwarf fortress for over a decade and it will work here.
anyway back to it. Im hoping for a beta release soon probably sometime early next year.
